The Desktop Plane plugin offers an alternative arrangement of viewports: instead of placing them on the sides of a cube which can be rotated, it places them adjacently and allows lateral sliding between them.

With the exception of individual bindings for switching to specific viewports, the Desktop Wall plugin offers all of the functionality of this plugin, along with many more features.
